The Work

I would describe the painting as free, since I always simply begin without following any particular idea. There might be the desire to use a colour or try a certain technique, but most of the time I follow my first impulse or simply an inspiration.

For me, spontaneous improvisation is what I associate with painting. During the process, forms or figures emerge that I follow. Especially in the early period, faces or human-like figures or creatures would often crystallise. It's worth looking for faces or figures in the apparently abstract paintings of the first years — some of them half-hidden. Later the work became predominantly abstract.

In the beginning I painted and drew with watercolour paints and pencils, as well as graphite. Then various media were added: neon pencils, pastel, ink and acrylic. The paintings are consistently small in format, partly because I often drew while travelling or outdoors.

The Naming

I haven't given the paintings titles. But since I'm a lover of order, I felt the need to number the sheets and keep them together within their pad. That's why I decided to name the paintings after the brand and type of drawing pad and add the year they were made.
